Knee injury mars Pittsburgh Steelers’ tackle Mike Adams’ pro career start – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers were waiting results of scans on knee of rookie left tackle Mike Adams who made an awkward start to his pro career as after having made some fumbles earlier in the preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles a knee injury pushed
him on the sidelines for the entire game on Thursday.
Adams was later shifted to locker room but his injury status was unclear until filing of this report. Coach Mike Tomlin earlier confirmed that they were waiting for the test results before elaborating severity of the rookie’s problem.
Steelers had confirmed tackles Adams and David DeCastro for the preseason opener to increase protection around quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who had also backed both players for the preseason campaign straightaway.
It nevertheless was a poor choice of the team given they knew the players were uncomfortable, in rather pain, due to an unknown problem they suffered at training camp.
Overall, this is not the start that Adams must be expecting to his professional league career, but he and his colleague apparently were carried away by the excitement of winning an opportunity to be in the side straightaway. Adams in fact had boasted higher
preparedness for the opening game.
The left tackle had allowed two strip sacks on Ben before being ousted with the right knee injury.
Away from the injury scare, which is hoped to be not as serious as torn Achilles tendon or anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), Adams and DeCastro were exposed on the defensive line.
Although both appeared very ambitious and excited, they looked fragile and shaky in plays. It was expected given they made first appearance of the rookie year, but still it is to be seen how much time they need to adapt to the pro conditions.
Steelers have maintained a mum on their performance and future of the player, which seems to be too early to speculate.
