Knee injury rules Australian Benn Robinson out of Rugby World Cup 2011
A devastating knee injury has ruled Wallabies player, Benn Robinson, out from the forthcoming Rugby World Cup 2011. Robinson was reported severe pain during training in his right knee on July 12 and underwent the scans on Wednesday, July 13. The examination
revealed which the intensity of the injury and shattered the prop’s hopes of participating in the world showpiece.
Wallabies coach, Robbie Deans, confirmed the news of Robinsons’ injury and said that he will miss the Tri-Nations Cup and Rugby World Cup 2011 due to his knee. The coach told the media that Robinson has damaged his anterior cruciate ligament which will require
surgery to repair.
The 26-years-old prop made his International debut in 2006 for Australia and has participated in 17 matches for his national side. Robinson also plays in the Super Rugby championship and has been playing for NSW Waratahs since 2006 and has gone onto the
field in 27 games for the derby.
He was named in the Wallabies 30-member squad to play a test match against Samoa on Sunday, in Sydney. The Blow has come at a very crucial time as he was all set to represent his side in Tri-Nations Cup and then in the RWC 2011, starting in September at
New Zealand.
The Australian rugby coach was moved by the news of Robinson’s injury and declared it a great loss for his team. Deans further said that, “Robbo's obviously been part of the group for a while, so you don't like losing blokes who have been in the nucleus.
It's disappointing news for Benn, disappointing news for the rest of the squad and for Australian rugby as a whole.”
The Australian skipper Rocky Elsom was also disappointed with Robinson’s exit from RWC 2011 and said that he was good player for his side. He further said that, “Obviously, he's been a fantastic player for us. You'd love to have all hands on deck but it's
like any Test week. If you lose guys, you've just got to fill it as best as you can - and we've got some good guys to fill it with.”
The Wallabies coach consoled the star player on his exclusion from the largest event of the year and said that injuries are always part of game.
