Question:

Knee overextending, could it dislocate?

My ACL is very loose; I'm having it replaced in 3 weeks. Today I woke up and everytime I take a step my knee "flings back" and over straightens (when the knee goes back further than 0degrees). It hurts everytime it does it and catches me off guard. Feels like I'm going to fall. So; now I have it wrapped up in an ACE bandange the way the PT taught me for ACL support. It has been really swollen the past 2 days. I'm just worried about it dislocating. Could it b/c my ACL is so loose and basically not functioning?? How can I prevent dislocation besides the ACE bandange?

  1. I'm pretty sure just be careful is the best advice, especially when your knee is bent as its at its least stable then. When you sit down swing your knee carefully to pump off the fluid  and if you can rest it or use a crutch. Obviously you're double jointed...the leg is most stable when fully extended but don't let it extend too far. The operation will fix it up
