I'm 16 now and since about 4 years ago i was told by the doctors i have osgood-schlatters/growing pain's and that they would go in about a year tops.....3-4 years on and im still having knee problems, it's especially bad if i havn't exercised in a while or after i haved exercised a lot which is weird and i cannot lift weights with me knee's as when i try it appears that something sticks out the right bit my right knee-cap (im guessing it's a cartlidge?) and it's quite painful. I cannot sprint properly now but i really want to get back into it but i need to build up my leg muscle's again but it's a bit of a catch 22' as i cannot exercise my legs :/ I'm starting to feel like i have the legs of an old man....can anyone suggest what's wrong and what i can do? I always get told the same thing by doctor's and it doesn't seem to be going away. It's not growing pains because i havn't grown in about 2 and a bit years.....

  1. I am 15 and I had something of the same problem it sounds like.

When I would exercise a lot a bump would swell on the outside of my knee cap on my right knee. I went to a sports specialist and he had me have an MRI. Turns out I had a torn meniscus (cartilidge) and ended up having surgery. The doctors told me that it is quite common especially with people who are tall at an early age. I was 5'9 in the 8th grade so I have always been tall. But today there is no swelling and no pain. I would go to a doctor before it gets worse.

I wish you all the luck in the world.
