Knife Set Question...?

I was wondering what set of knives are the best.

The reason why is because I want to buy a knife set that is very good but cheap that the same time.

I looked up this one set from Cutco but the one set I wanted was just wayyyy to expensive ($615!!!) and it only had 5 knives in the set.

Any suggestions?

  1. Try Japanese brand cuttery. Its world known. Try also Sollingen (Germany)

  2. I must say, cutco is expensive but its THE BEST set of knives you'll ever own. I used to work for them so I got a free set. They last a long time, and they dont go dull fast. so if you want a great set of knives, you really should buy cutco, as they'll last long so its worth the money.

  3. Cutco is good but it's far too expensive for what you get, and their business practices (especially how the company treats its salespersons) might give you pause.

My Henckels Four Star knives date from 1982 and are still going strong; my friend, a professional chef, swears by Forschner. In both cases you can get three good knives - a 4 inch paring knife, a 10 inch chef's knife, and a 10 inch bread knife - for under $250. That's all you really need, although an 8 inch slicer is also handy to have.

In fact, here's a Henckels set similar to the Cutco one for $259 US:
