  1. try ceramic stones

  2. It's probably surgical steel, the stuff scalpels in hospitals are made of. But don't play games. Talk to Buck, or people who know them. You can ruin a good knife if the edge is selectively hardened in some way. In these days of nanotech and diamond crystal steel, it makes sense to listen to the people who know.

To quote the "Book of Knives" :

Know thee that in the past, to produce a sword that could cut through steel, the blades were heated white hot (a guess) on the edge and dunked in the pissing of a cow. (Today we call it nitriding. But in 1400 they called it magic. It took a lot of skill to heat only the edge. If you did it for the whole blade then the sword would be brittle and shatter the next time you defended yourself against a dragon. That's why there are no more dragons. They got it right. Sob!)

    Try this search on Yahoo:

    Buck knives sharpening

It gives 79,000 links. But at the top is a Buck knife service. Sharpening. If you want to learn to do it yourself right, I'm sure they will help. Or you can just give them a cc number and it comes back better than new.

  3. Use a hard Arkansas stone with honing oil.Use a circular motion with the blade slightly angled going from tip to hilt.
