I am knitting a simple hat. If i leave the finished knitting down, the part that would be a garter stitch would be facing out. How did this happen, or is this normal? And when i get to the decreasing, what do i do?

  1. I think you mean reverse-stockinette, not garter stitch. If so, simply push the work through between the needles. The yarn should face the center of the knitting.

Make sure you knit every round, because purling in the round makes garter stitch.

  2. Sounds like you think you're knitting the hat inside out?

Which in fact you are. When you're done knitting push the hat through the needles. Somehow you must have got it all turned around.

    Good luck.
