Knitting or crochet?

my friends sister makes hats and sweaters and she sells them to people but she wont tell us if what it is so i wondering if its knitting or crochet because i want to learn and make some so i can also get lots of $

  1. I take it you've never seen her making the items.

    If you web-search for images of "knit" and "crochet" you may be able to identify the items by comparing with the illustrations.  Most knitting and crochet can be identified at a glance by folk who know how to both knit and crochet.

    It the result looks more like the surface of a sock or a t-shirt but with much larger stitches, that's knitting.  There are machines that can produce plain knitting very quickly.  When machines are used for the plain areas and the fancier stuff done by hand, profit can be made.  Knitting machines aren't cheap.

    For crochet, you'd need a minimum of one hook plus yarn or thread.  Crochet doesn't have the "drape" of knit goods.  It can be easier to do multi-color patterns with crochet than with knitting.

    Suggestion:  research both crafts and make something she isn't doing, like belts, tote bags or back-packs.  Then you can both make more money.
