i am trying to knit with two colours of wool what is the best way to join in wool to avoid holes stocking stich

  1. I am assuming that you are knitting with two colors in the same row (intarsia or picture knitting).  You need to weave the tail of the second color in before you need it by knitting your stitches with the new color held alternately over and under the tip of the right needle as it knits the stitches from the left needle for several stitches.  You then need to bring the color you are changing to under and up to the right of the color you will no longer be knitting with to avoid holes.  If you are intarsia knitting with several colors in each row, cut a length of yarn that is one to several yards long for each color (depending on the number of stitches you'll work in that color) and work from separate strands of yarn across.

    If you are simply changing colors for stripes, weave in the new tail in last knit row before the change, twist the old and new colors, weave the old color into the first knit row of the old color and clip the tails.


  2. There is a proper way of doing it, but I always just tied the two ends of the wool together...
