I tore my MCL and I still have pain when riding and I was cleared to ride. Is there any kind of brace that offers more support than those little flimsy things yet can not be seen by my breeches. Also, my leg that I hurt slides back and fourth in the saddle when I ride. I've heard that sadl-tite works good to help keep your legs in position when riding. Is it ok to try to uses this seeing that it would help alleviate some pain??? Thanks in advance!!!

  1. If you mean ACL

You should look for a saddle that has high knee rolls. It helps keep your leg back with little force. As far as a brace, I would stick to an ace bandage, and wrap it tightly to keep the blood in. That's what I did when I tore my ACL.

  2. try riding western if you can, it doesnt require as much rising and is comfy enough to just sit there :)

  3. I have one but I can't remember where I got it from as it was so long ago - it's shaped and you put it on from the back of the knee and it fastens with velcro. It's not 100% invisible but it's not too bad.

Don't bother with hinged stirrups - they don't help. Try taking the one on that leg up by one hole - that's what I have to do.

  4. A friend of mine road for years with a hinged brace, and for training you might want to consider that.  As for a brace that will not show under breaches,  and will give a collateral ligament support.  I don't think their is such a thing.

Sadl-tite if it relives pain it is reliving irritation and should be safe to use.  Play with it to find the most comfort.  That will likely give the best knee protection.

Please tell me you are using safety stirrups.  With your knee already injured imagine what getting a foot cought in the stirrup would feel like.  Not to mention the damage to the knee.

  5. Also I would suggest investing in some jointed stirrups, they will allow some give for your knees as well as your ankle which will alleviate some of your knee pain. Also I wouldn't really recommend large knee blocks, pads yes blocks no, because they will rotate your knee farther out which will probably cause you discomfort.

As for the sliding clean your saddle with just saddle soap, and do the same thing to your boots or half chaps and it will create friction because of the glycerin and will help hold your leg until you gain the strength to hold your position again. When I say saddle soap I mean the old fashion bars of saddle soap, not Lexol or any kind of oil product.
