  1. Start with High, Med and Low k***s at 12 o’clock.  Then for the gain start low and work your way up.  When you get a clear crisp sound at normal singing vocal volume stop.  If you have any feedback then back off some of the gain and move to the frequencies.  I like to keep the highs at 12 o’clock and the lows in the 10 o’clock range.  Mid range at 12 or 11.  If there is a midrange sweep you can defeat specific sound frequencies for even more control, especially is a frequency, say 250 hz is causing feedback.

Each mic brand is a little different and each person's voice is different.  Some you may want to go 1 o’clock on the highs, 10 on the midrange and 10 on the lows for one person.  Another might be completely different.  Just remember small changes.  Also if you are using a graphic equalizer for your overall mix.  Set that first.  Put in a CD of the kind of music you will be mixing later and get the system eq'ed.  Remember an EQ on a sound system should be mostly at 0.  You use an EQ to remove frequencies that are stronger than others in the room you are playing in. You can "ring out" a room by setting up your system, put your mics on stage, turned on then bring up the volume slightly past normal levels.  Isolate offending frequencies by sliding different frequencies down on the equalizer until the ringing goes away.   Then back the volume down to normal levels.  This way you will have less chance of feedback during the show.  Just don't let your speakers feedback too much or it will damage them.  Work a little at a time, one frequency at a time.

I know this is more than you asked for, but it all goes together in producing the best sound.

  2. You really need to read your owners manual.  The k**b settings will depend on a lot of different things.  It is here if you need it:

Read the section "Making the Most of Your MIxer".

Learning to adjust the "Gain" is very important.  Let your ears decide when it comes to adjusting the highs, mids  and lows.
