Knockando looking to win Guinness Handicap Hurdle – Newcastle Preview
Knockando is eyeing to register third triumph of 2012 by finishing first in the Guinness Handicap Hurdle which will be held at Newcastle racecourse on Saturday night, March 17.
The Lucinda Russell-trained bay gelding is all set to compete against Glenwood Knight, Merrydown, Cloudy Too, Mcmurrough, Rudemeister, Scotswell, Falcun, Soprano, Currahee and Political Paddy.
The high-stakes Class 3 contest of 3m distance will commence at 2:00 (GMT). There is reserved a huge prize money worth £3,639 for the mega marathon.
The reason why Knockando has turned to be the hot favourite contender for the Hurdle title is two consecutive victories that the maverick gelding bagged during the month of January 2012.
After winning convincingly the Novices’ Handicap Hurdle at Ayr track on January 2, he moved forward to notch up the title of Comedy Curry Night at Wetherby on January 23.
These two recent feats have played a significant role in perking up his confidence. Making his debut in May 2010, the seven-year-old veteran horse finished ninth each in the first four outings of his career.
As a whole, the Distillery Racing Club-owned sprinter has run for 11 times to date, earning £4,314 in prize money.
Considering Knockando’s decent track record and excellent skills, it is predicted that he will unleash immense firepower at Newcastle and dominate his rivals daringly. His chances to win are as high as 90 percent.
Among the other runners, Rudemeister and Cloudy Too look to be somewhat solid and the duo is likely to do well today.
Rudemeister delivered outstanding performances in two back-to-back races during the month of January 2012. After finishing third in the first outing on January 1, the Andrew Parker-trained bay gelding clinch first position in the second one on January 20.
He ran for both times at Catterick course.
On the other hand, Cloudy Too stood third and fourth in the last two races of his career. Sue Smith’s bay gelding has won one out of total 10 starts of his career. In terms of running stamina, he is strong enough.
By are large, there is expected to be a tough tug of war between Rudemeister and Knockando for the first position. Both these geldings are carrying a lot of momentum and enthusiasm. Let see who manages to make the breakthrough. Good luck to the duo.
