Know More the one to beat in the FrontRunner Stakes
J. Paul Reddam would be hoping to produce another sensational three-year-old in, Know More, who has shown promise in the couple of races he has participated in, but it’s still early days for Lion Heart’s 2-year-old colt, which is going for his third career-race in the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes at Santa Anita Park on 29 September, 2012.
Know More is on the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile trail, also at Santa Anita Park, had to go two turns at some point, and the race most likely being his next, Doug O’Neill will look at the FrontRunner Stakes as a prep-race for the biggest event of the colt’s career thus far.
Bred in Kentucky by Joseph LaCombe Stable, Know More was a first-out winner of the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar on 5 August. Going over 6 ½ furlongs at Del Mar’s all-weather track, Know More under Garrett Gomez shook loose to deny Heir Kitty a graded stakes win, and in doing so covered the distance in 1 minute and 16.14 seconds.
Out of Seattle Slew mare Seattle Qui, Know More got his next opportunity to impress in September, but was 1 ¼ lengths shy of another brilliant victory at Del Mar in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity at seven furlongs.
However, on the back of two impressive performances, it would appear that Know More will be the one to beat in the FrontRunner Stakes, but as always Bob Baffert will have a strong say.
The veteran trainer, who had a large string of 2-year-olds last season as well, is returning with another batch of good ones. He will send out three juveniles in the FrontRunner Stakes.
The 2-years-old Medaglia d’Oro colt, Den’s Legacy breaking his maiden at third attempt will look to put things into perspective ahead of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile by winning the FrontRunner Stakes.
Natalie Baffert and Bode Miller owned, Carving, is undefeated in two, and is currently exiting victory in the C. B. Afflerbaugh Stakes.
Power Broker, who Bob Baffert conditions for Gary and Mary West Stables is yet to win one in three starts, and will be a new experience for him as he has dwelled at Del Mar in all three starts.
