I have a five week old puppy that is eat up with fleas. I can't use flea shampoo or any medicine on her until she is several weeks older. We have tried capstar and the doctor has sprayed her with frontline, which did nothing. Other than bathing her everyday in Dawn, which has to be irritating her skin, got any ideas?

  1. what you need to do is go to petco they sell a powder that you put on them its cheap it will cost u about 13 bucks that helps allot cause its killing the fleas while its slepping or awake

  2. Just buy a herbal flea shampoo then it cant hurt her!  heaps of different ones 2 try.

  3. The Frontline should have worked.  The puppy may need a second application if they are that bad.  Fleas normally go hand in hand with worms.   Ask your Vet for Advantage.  This should tackle both problems.

You really need to seek Veterinary advice.  You cannot be too careful with a puppy this young..  It should still be with its mother at this age.

It's not a good idea to keep bathing the puppy in Dawn either.  If you are going to bathe her you need a Special Puppy Shampoo for fleas.

If you are in the UK there is an excellent product called Hyperdrug Flea Drops which can be used on puppies as young as two weeks old

Go to www.hyperdrug.co.uk.   I use this on all my dogs.  It is a lot cheaper than Frontline and is also excellent for repelling ticks.
