Know any practical strategies on how to drink alcoholic beverages while doing the least amount of harm?

Any tips on how to drink in a social setting and not do that much harm to your body? Any links? Any ideas?

  1. Yes... I recently learned a scientific fact.

    Men take an hour to lose a drink (drink = 1 beer, 1 mixed drink, 6 oz wine)

    Women take 3/4 of an hour to lose the same drink.

    So, if you are a man, drink one alcoholic beverage an hour to stay sober,  if you are a woman, you can have one every 45 minutes.

    Cool, huh?

    all those drinks named are exactly the same alcohol content per drink.  Beer, mixed drink, wine, whatever has the SAME alcohol content!!   It has more water, but the same amount of alcohol.  Sorry, dear.... I have educated facts following up my statements, even if someone believes I am wrong, they aparently did not do their research before answering the question....

    NO amount of food will make your body lose alcohol any faster, no amount of dilution will reduce the amount of alcohol... 4 oz is 4 oz is 4 oz, regardless of whatever else you put in your body.    4oz of alcohol will leave your body in the same time frame regardless of whether you take vitamins, eat a huge HERO sandwich, or pee a lot.  

    It hits your stomach, then your blood stream and then your kidneys in the same speed regardless.

  2. The smartest way to drink and your body also benefits from it is, drink a glass of wine or 2 a day. Its good for your heart! Take sips! I personally, just tell them I don't drink and I don't have to drink to hang out or have fun... Stand your ground and people will respect you and your decision!

  3. Just slowly sip your drink.  I don't recommend drinking more than two drinks in a social setting.

  4. Alternate drinking the alcohol with water so that you have a better chance of staying hydrated.  I bartended for four years and always served water alongside alcoholic beverages unless the guest asked that I not.

    Take a multivitamin before you go to bed.

    You could also drink beer which is going to give you the least amount of alcohol per volume.  One serving of alcohol is in 12 oz. of beer as opposed to 4 oz. of wine of 1 oz. of liquor.

    If you don't like beer and want a mixed drink, make sure they serve it in a "tall" glass which will be the same amount of liquor but more juice and/or mixers.

  6. you answered your own question. drink the least amount of alcohol. Get a really fruity drink with ice and sip slow.

  7. In addition to only having a couple drinks, don't drink on an empty stomach and drink a glass of water for each alcoholic drink you have.
