Question:

Know anyone who can play several notes at once on trombone?

I was told by my private teacher that some trombonists (in addition to all other wind instruments) can play a note, hum the note a fifth above it, and a third comes out, too. So a trombonist can essentially play a trio. Know anyone who can do that? Is it relatively easy, or does it take years and years to learn?

  1. You'd best ask your private teacher for the answer, it only makes sense. Sounds like something you won't get an answer for here.

  2. This is called multiphonics it is not usually used on trombone repertoire. If you want to hear look up christian lindberg -the best trombonist in the world- and you will here some. (second movement of a motorbike odyssey) He also plays alot of the old favourites but has rewritten some of them and added his own cadenzas. Some interesting stuff. Have fun!
