they have both been around a very long time like you say you can see it in egypt times also. so why is this important to you. the animals i am sure started out dogs were mans best friends and they really liked them and then the cats in some countries were at thet ime of the same things dogs were. it depends on which area you were living. its people have to have pets and some of them were used for other things also. take care.

In Egypt cats do appear as domesticated animals. They are dated to about 2,000 BCE. The Egyptians had the goddess Bastet conceived as having the head of a human and body of a cat.

How the domestication took place is uncertain. Certainly a farming community had problems with rodents eating the stored grain. Cats, no doubt, would be attracted to the presence of rodents and humans, seeing the benefit, would ecourage the cats remaining close by.

Also, the word cat comes from the god Utchat. It was associated with the all seeing eye symbol.  In ancient Egypt there was a law which said if your house catches on fire you must save the cat first.

I think so.  I do know that Egyptians worshipped cats a long time ago.
