Know of any good chapter book series for an 8 year old girl?

My daughter is afraid of chapter books. She's intimidated by the size of them but did love the Junie B. Jones series. She's simply read them all. There's just no reasoning with her but I know if we find the right books, she'll just start reading them. Any suggestions?

I know that it's not a book series but when I was 8 my teacher started reading a chapter of "Matilda" by Roald Dahl to us each day.  By the end of the week I had bought the book for myself and read it cover to cover over the weekend.  Roald Dahl books are really good for anyone around that age and "Matilda" is really good for girls.

My answer may be a little dated, but I think anything by Beverly Cleary would be excellent for an 8-year-old of either gender.  I grew up with these books and loved them.  There is a series about a character named Ramona Quimby - you might start with those.

When I was 8 this was my favorite book, it isn't intimidating......  "Tales of a fourth grade nothing" by Judy Blume. GREAT READ, She will enjoy it.

What about Magic Treehouse, they are great and probably the same length maybe a little longer than Junie B. And there are tons of books in that series.

We have more I will have to go look on our bookshelf and add later, that is just the first one that came to mind.

When i was a kid i LOVED the Junie B Jones books..."The B. stands for beatrice...and thats all." lol umm- i also like- The magic tree house series, Cam Jansen Adventure series! Also these books were great and age appropiete that i read::: Fudge, Super Fudge, Freckle Juice, Judy Moody! The link for alot more great books is at the bottom! The little house on the prairie books are wonderful and also teach about pioneer life.My son read the magic tree-house and loved them .Also ask her teacher for some suggestions,she would know things at her reading level.GOD-bless

There are so many, The Boxcar Children are good.  Baby Sitter's Club, if she is into "fantasy" she might try books by Bruce Colville. He even has a cool website see below, My 11 year old used to like the Ramona series.

When I was her age I loved A-Z Mysteries. Much like Junie B. Jones in length, but of course they are mysteries. Magic Treehouse is a another good series, Wendy's is actually giving out free Magic Treehouse audiobooks with the kids meals right now, maybe if she listened to one first she would see that chapter books really aren't scary, they can be really good!

Encyclopedia Brown was also one of my favorite around that age, they might be a little challenging at first for her to read on her own. I had my mom read those to me, it's a great way to introduce bigger chapter books. Encyclopedia Brown looks like a really big book, but really they are lots of smaller stories. Also try Matilda and The Twits, they are short and quite funny, Matilda is one of my favorites to this day. Good luck!

are you religious? if so try the "A Life of Faith" series of books. They are a book series about 5 different girls and their lives in the 1800's . each girl has a distinct life history and you can choose which one fits your daughter best. www.alof.com for more info.

my daughter also read the narnia books. Hummm- non religious....... maybe nancy drew or look on the school book order form or go to scholastics website.
