  1. rush street! five star! enjoy

  2. Try Joe's Be-Bop at Navy Pier. They have great food and live music. Afterwards, you can walk around Navy Pier and hang out at the various bars. Or, since it's not far from the Loop, there are a ton of other places you could go afterwards.

  3. Kuma's Corner has gotten a lot of national attention as of late and are on several "Best Of" burgers lists.

As a result, they've gotten pretty good about dealing with crowds. Plus, if you're going to a bar, don't you want it to be crowded? At least a little?

  4. What type of music do YOU qualify as good? That'll make all the difference.

In my opinion, Shenanigan's is sort of a dirty old frat bar that draws a large crowd. Lots of younger gals (and bachelorette parties) and older guys. That's just been my experience whenever I've been there. There are a lot of fun bars in the Shenanigan's strip at Clark & Division though, so it would be really fun to bar hop in that area.

I have no experience with the Bamboo Room, so I can't help you there.

If you like the Shenanigan's music, you may enjoy a place called The Apartment in Lincoln Park (the Lion's Head Pub is right downstairs of it)...both places are great and a lot of fun. It's a little bit nicer, but has a similar younger crowd (minus the older guys).

You may also enjoy John Barleycorn's or Mullen's in Wrigleyville. Howl at the Moon is a really fun dueling piano bar downtown. Rockit is right next door and is a lot of fun (both on W. Hubbard Street at the Dearborn intersection). The Hyatt on Wacker has a bar called "Big" that serves drinks the size of your head. There's a bar just below that called Hard Drive for dancing and what not.

You can check out reviews for virtually any bar at the city at chicago.metromix.com.

    Have fun and happy birthday!
