I'll be teaching a class in the fall on how to measure, read patterns, and lay-out. This class is designed just for pattern reading.  Pattern reading is a skill that comes with visually seeing and doing, it is best to take a class.  

You may not get all the capabilities with one garment, but you build upon your skill with each successive item you sew.  Sewing is a cumulative skill that builds its knowledge with each experience. If you can't take a class, ask someone with sewing experience to help you lay-out and cut your pattern.
