Are you thinking of travelling north of Veracruz city along the coast?  If so, there are several picturesque, independent hotels along the Emerald coast...about 2 hrs north of Veracu city , but still south of poza Rica.  these little hotels do not have websites and cannot be found on the web.  if you have a car and are driving, you just watch along about a 20 mile stretch there and pick one.  some are more elegant than others, most right on the beach, some very attractive.  sorry i do not have contact info on them...nest time i drive down there, I will pick up flyers or contact info for some of those places. I live a couple of hrs from there.  Only wbsite I found that may be of help is below.  There is absolutely NOTHING else around there...tiny towns, and the beach hotels.  Beaches in the city of Veracruz are NOT at all attractive. .. I do not know about south of the city.  if you are going to other parts of the state, i know more about those areas and you may email me if i can help you any more.
