  1. Good for you

    GOD BLESS you too...

                                   i live in taiwan

and i doing a double concentration on philosophy and fashion design

well a person who majored in philosphy has the skills in critical thinking, ethics and logics..

  2. good question,

i guess such person has been thinking about "why we are here" and "what is the purpose of life" and that sort of stuff and he gets to read what others before him thought on those issues,

but personally i dont think knowledge in philosophy necesserily results in happiness,

one can get depressed reading that stuff and i've seen it,

ppl are different and happinees means different to them i guess,

  3. I don't think it makes a difference.  In fact I think more knowledge can make a person less happy.  Who are the happiest people on the earth?  Children are.  They come into the world knowing nothing.

I live in Australia.  Not formally studying anything.  I study on my own whatever interests me that day.

  4. "Philosophy won't make you rich, but it will set you free."

    - Will Durant

Durant makes the distinction between the specialist and the philosopher: the former knows more and more about less and less; the latter knows less and less about more and more.

  5. Philosophy is the basis of thought.  The word 'philosophy' originally meant any kind of thought or learning, which is why someone with a doctorate is called a Doctor of Philosophy.

But as the basis of thought, philosophy gives us answers to questions that most people don't even think about.  I find great pleasure in philosophy, great satisfaction in it, even though it doesn't exactly make me rich.  And I didn't major in it, so I don't really know that much about it, it's just an interest of mine.

Philosophy is also a way of thinking, just as mathematics or computer science or even business studies are a way of thinking.  No matter what job you have, a person who studied philosophy will look at problems differently than one who studied business or math, will think of different approaches, different solutions.  It is a good 'generalist' field, meaning that you have a wider range of approaches, you are never 'too close' to a problem.

I live in California.  I was a liberal arts major, mostly studying literature and drama and art through western history, and how they were affected by politics.  Today I would call myself a 'student of human nature', but that would be at least partly in jest.

  6. Knowledge gives a quiet understanding of all things worldly and matters spiritual. An understanding of the world gives man a reconcillatory peace with the same. Peace gives birth to living and comprehending the world.

Without peace man struggles to come to terms and understand why people behave, the world turns, and society about him reacts in the manner that it does. This struggle prohibits spiritual growth, expanding of the imagination, truly being mentally free to live.
