Knut Borsheim upbeat about Norwegian future in the world of golf

Knut Borsheim has confirmed to participate in the European Challenge Tour’s Norwegian Challenge at Norges Golfforbund, scheduled from August 9 to 12, 2012.
Borsheim burst on to the Challenge Tour scene after he recorded an impressive second-place finish at the 2011 Kazakhstan Open.
He is now one of the leading golf players in Norway and the only one who plays on the European Tour. Therefore, his confirmation to return to his home event will provide a huge boost to the local economy.
Usually, he does not play Challenge Tour events, as he prefers to remain on the European Tour to contend against bigger names.
This time, the story is completely different. He is only participating in the event because it was scheduled in his home country and he did not want to miss the opportunity of showing a top-notch game to his home fans.
Espen Kofstad is another emerging golf star from Norway and Borsheim believes that the time is not far away when the country will start producing some of the greatest players in the world.
“Me and Espen are the oldest ones and we come from good backgrounds of working hard so I think we should be fairly good role models for the guys coming behind us,” he said.
He told that he want his compatriots to prove themselves in the sport of golf, as the players from other Scandinavian countries have done in the past.
Thorbjørn Olesen, Andreas Hartø and Morten Orum Madsen are good examples of international players who have made their country feel proud several times.
“I think there is a good group of young players coming up now,” Borsheim said. “I remember from amateur level, my last year as an amateur was when Norway began to really break through. We got to the final of the European team championships and all of a sudden
they won the Junior World Cup and then we had some good results on the international amateur scene”.
He told that most of the amateurs are now turning professional and want to contend for bigger prize money. As a result, they learn new things from veteran players by playing on high standards, which will benefit the Norwegian golf industry in the end.
