Ko Sung Hyun, Lee Yong Dae become Men’s Doubles finalists – Korea Open Update
Men’s Doubles experts Ko Sung Hyun and Lee Yong Dae continued playing impeccable badminton in the Korea Grand Prix Gold and remained invincible also in the semi-final round on December 8, 2012.
They were up against the scratch duo Goh V Shem-Ong Jian Guo of Malaysia in a straight-set match which ended with concluding result of 21-11 and 21-16.
This semi-final tussle was staged the local badminton arena of Hwasun-gun where a huge crowd gathered to support the native shuttlers.
Sung Hyun and Yong Dae, who hold 31st spot in the world ranking, did not disappoint their supporters and wrapped this showdown in a favourable manner.
The prime Korean duo set the foundation of its dominance immediately in the beginning of first set and enjoyed an upper hand all the way to final moments.
In the opening game, they unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes and bagged many valuable points straight away in the beginning.
This initial advantage helped them to keep their challengers at the lower end. They finished first half of the set with a psychological edge of indomitable lead.
The Malaysian shuttlers resumed their campaign in the second half with low shoulders and failed to come out of their rivals’ influence.
V Shem and Jian Guo looked completely dazzled as they dropped many vital points just because of the lack of coordination.
They kept trailing behind all the way to game point situation and finally gave up this futile chase after reading 11-21 score on the board.
The second set also was sheer disappointment for them as the Korean team relished full benefits of home ground and crowd to seal a splendid straight-set victory.
This time Sung Hyun and Yong Dae played watchfully and moved forward gradually.
However, they still managed to maintain a notable difference throughout this segment of the showdown.
They mounted pressure by clinching some consecutive points in the beginning and then magnified the impact with some productive rallies just before the interval.
After the mid-game break, they ruled the court without any trouble and sent their competitors packing with an impressive result of 21-16.
Now they will meet either Kim Ki Jung-Kim Sa Rang or the twosome of Jui Wei Liang-Kuan Hao Liao in the title match.
