Ko Sung Hyun, Lee Yong Dae remain invincible in quarter-finals of 2012 Li Ning China Open
Korea’s lower ranked but spirited duo Ko Sung Hyun-Lee Yong Dae registered their presence in the Li Ning China Open by unseating Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng in the quarter-finals on November 16, 2012.
This Men’s Doubles showdown held at local badminton arena of Shanghai and it prolonged to 47 minutes before ending with 21-17 and 21-16 margin.
World Number five duo Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng was expected to have a smooth run to the finals of this Super Series but the opposing team put their expedition to halt.
The Chinese campaigners put a fluctuated performance and disappointed the local crowd that gathered to support the native shuttlers.
Meanwhile, the Korean pair performed beyond expectations and sealed a straight-set victory. They made their intentions clear by clinching first match point with distinction and then served notice of their potential with a splendid win in second set.
Sung Hyun and Yong Dae looked completely on song in the opening game as they outclassed their higher ranked rivals technically and tactically.
They established a notable lead with 7-3 total and then capitalised this initial advantage in next couple of rallies.
At mid-game break, they were having the upper hand in 11-6 margin and this psychological edge helped them to keep the opposing team at the lower end in later part of the game.
Though, Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng made every effort to tip the scale in their favour but they had to surrender after reading 21-17 score on the board.
The following game had nothing to offer for the amusement of local badminton lovers as the Chinese shuttlers failed to rise on their toes.
They lost control straight away in the beginning and could not bounce back despite of putting an honest effort.
The Korean players mounted pressure by registering an indomitable figure of 6-1 and then doubled the impact with 11-6 margin before interval.
After the one-minute break, Sung Hyun and Yong Dae forged a fruitful chemistry and wrapped this showdown with a staggering knock of 21-16.
This win led them to the semi-finals where another higher ranked team Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa of Japan is waiting for them.
