Kobayashi says HRT can beat RBR as Peter Sauber thinks otherwise – Formula 1 news
The Sauber camp is giving some contrasting views about the reigning champion team Red Bull Racing.
Kamui Kobayashi said that even Hispania Racing Team could beat the Red Bull team keeping in mind the degradation of the Pirelli tyres. However, Sauber’s team principal Peter Sauber thinks that the Red Bull team is unbeatable as their closest rivals Ferrari
is six tenths of a second slower.
Red Bull have a consistent car from the pre-season testing and they are second highest in terms of mileage, which lets everyone say that they will make up a good show. Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher have said previously that Red Bull
will be the pace sitter this season.
HRT on the other hand have not even bothered to reveal their car and have said that they will wait until Friday to reveal their car. Their pre-season testing has not been the one to talk about.
Even though Red Bull and HRT have no comparison, Kobayashi still joked about that and said, “Maybe we will see a Red Bull being overtaken by a Hispania.”
He explained that fact that it is possible in the coming season due to the Pirelli tyres.
He said, “If they're [Red Bull] on older hard tyres and Hispania have a brand new set of super-softs, it could happen.”
He further added that this season’s tyres will create confusion among the spectators but no team will be small this season.
On the other hand, Sauber’s team boss Peter Sauber said that Red Bull are clearly ahead of every team in terms of development and speed. Although the statistics show that Ferrari have the best average lap time so far, Peter said that Red Bull are quicker
than any other team on the straights.
Meanwhile, the youngest Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel said that RB7 is good but not good to predict the season prior to the start.
Other than the RBR and HRT comparison, Kobayashi talked about the recent contract signing of a Suzuka new contract until 2012, that it is good for the sport in Japan.
According to Kobayashi, Sumo and baseball are the two most watched games in Japan.
He said, “Even though when there was Senna and Prost, it was fashionable to go to the F1 races. But sadly those times are over.”
