Kobe Bryant and Los Angeles Lakers new coach Mike Brown are getting along just fine – NBA Update
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant is understood to be getting along well with his new coach Mike Brown.
Mike Brown was previously LeBron James’ coach at the Cleveland Cavaliers and was fired as the project in Cleveland fell apart. Brown’s hiring had raised serious questions among the Los Angeles Lakers fans as to whether he had the
guts to lead the Lakers and their legacy.
Mike Brown supposedly blew away the Los Angeles Lakers management in his interview and got the job, against the wishes of Kobe Bryant. Bryant had earlier declared his support for the Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Brian Shaw.
The decision of the management went in Brown’s favour and immediately reports surfaced that Kobe Bryant was no happy with his hiring. Although, Kobe did not make his feelings known publicly, but insiders reported that Bryant was particularly upset at not having
been talked to before the decision was made.
Kobe Bryant has played at the Los Angeles Lakers his entire career and the future Hall of Famer is considered a legend already. He is undoubtedly the star player and leader of the team and therefore expected to be taken into confidence
regarding a decision of this magnitude. Jim Buss, son of Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss and the Executive Vice President of the franchise is believed to be the man behind Mike Brown’s hiring and he came out afterwards to say that the Lakers made a mistake
by not talking to Kobe Bryant beforehand.
Coach Mike Brown has since met with Kobe Bryant twice. The first meeting took place at Kobe Bryant’s residence and the second at the El Segundo practice facility. Both are reported to have gone well and the coach-player duo seemed
to have liked each other’s view on the future of the Los Angeles franchise.
Bryant had said earlier that the Los Angeles Lakers needed to focus on defence next season and the defensive specialist Mike Brown seems to have impressed his star player with his vision. There are also reports that Mike Brown
will drop the triangle offense that made the Lakers so successful under Phil Jackson. The triangle offense worked wonders for Phil Jackson at the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers, but Brown and the team seem to be ready to move onto newer systems.
Mike Brown even spoke of things been cool with Kobe Bryant but the player has not said a word. His silence, earlier perceived at displeasure with Mike Brown, is now believed to be directed as a protest at the Los Angeles Lakers
management for keeping him out of the loop.
Bryant went on a similar silent strike back in 2007 when he wanted major changes to the Lakers roster and requested to be traded if his demands were not met.
