Kobe Bryant discusses Andrew Bynum and DeMarcus Cousins after team USA practice – NBA Update
Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant is nowadays practicing with team USA, getting ready to take part in the London Olympics, due to start at the end of this month.
Following the scrimmages with the team yesterday, Bryant talked about two of the best young centres in the league – Andrew Bynum and DeMarcus Cousins.
When asked about the future of Lakers big, considering the recent speculation involving him in a possible move to lure in Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard, Bryant revealed that these sort of rumours do not really affect the big
man, and was sure that Bynum would come in as ready as possible to play alongside newly arriving Steve Nash come next season.
“Yea, yea. He’s got kind of this f— it attitude, you know what I mean,” Kobe said. “Which is great, it’s one of the things that makes him a great player. It won’t bother him at all…. Andrew is a big boy, he can handle it better
than most.”
There have been reports that the Lakers are looking to materialize a three team trade which would see them give away Bynum to the Houston Rockets and bring in Howard in a bid to get back their higher status in the NBA, something
they have not been able to achieve in the last two seasons.
However considering the amount of efforts the Houston Rockets have been making for the signature of Howard, the move is not likely to take place, and Bynum could possibly return in purple and yellow next season.
Further into the media session, Bryant was asked about DeMarcus Cousins who was a key part of the Sacramento Kings outfit during last season. The Sacramento big is a huge talent, but on the negative side, he has developed a reputation
of an immature player, who lets the emotions get the better of him.
Due to the same attitude, Cousins was not considered for the Olympics, even though the team is short on quality bigs. Kobe stressed that for Cousins to make it big; all he has to do is keep his head;
“All he has to do is continue to work, continue to keep his level head. That’s all he has to do. That’s all he has to do,” Kobe said. “If he can do that and can let his basketball talent speak for itself, he’ll be fine. He gets
in trouble when he starts letting his emotions get the best of him, now people start talking about that as opposed to his game.”
