Kobe Bryant leads as Los Angeles Lakers roll over the cold shooting New York Knicks 99-82: NBA Recap
Kobe Bryant pounded a game high 28 points with six assists and Pau Gasol followed with 16-10 double-double as the Los Angeles Lakers kept the rejuvenated New York Knicks winless (99-82) on a three game road trip, which started
with a 92-78 loss to the Golden State Warriors.
The Knicks, led by 27 points from small forward Carmelo Anthony, made a solid start to the game and were leading by 17-11 inside the first five minutes of the game. However, after that, the Lakers took over with a 20-4 run and
ended the first quarter with a 31-24 advantage.
The Knicks tried hard to make a comeback in the next frame, but were met with a Lakers side, which shot nearly 80 percent of their shots to take their lead into double figures, 63-51, at the interval. In the third quarter, the
Knicks did manage to outscore the Lakers 21-17, but could only manage to close in at 72-80 going into the last stanza.
The last quarter turned out to be a complete disaster for the Knicks.
The visitors gave away 7 turnovers and made only 3 of their 14 field goal attempts. Anthony made two of them, with the first one coming early into the seventh minute of play. It followed a ten point unanswered Lakers run and the
game was done and dusted.
Amare’ Stoudemire had a horror shooting night at the Staples centre. The power forward continued his dismal run into the season and shot 4 of 17 on his way to 15 points. He gave away 4 of the total 13 Knicks turnovers and was also
rejected 4 times. Tyson Chandler made 11 of 13 free throws for 13 points, 11 rebounds and three steals. Except for the trio, nobody in the entire New York roster managed to score above 6, completely exposing their weak bench. The Knicks shot only 31.3 percent
from the field including 27.3 from the long range.
The Lakers on the other hand made it two wins in a row and shot above fifty percent, including 9 of 16 from beyond the arc. Steve Blake sprung with 11 points from the bench and Josh McRoberts canned 10 points and 6 boards. Jason
Kapono and Metta world Peace also scored 9 apiece.
