Kobe Bryant made two visits to Germany for his knee treatment - NBA Report
Five times NBA champion Kobe Bryant visited Germany, not once but twice during the extended offseason.
The trips were not for promoting basketball or for tourism purposes, but for extending his NBA career. Bryant’s ankles and knees have been troubling for him last 7-8 years now and in the last season during which his knee injury
was well documented; he twisted his ankle in a playoff game against the New Orleans Hornets.
That is when the 33 years old super star felt his body disintegrating and immediately arrived at a conclusion to take necessary measures to address the injuries. He first visited the German molecular orthopedist, Peter Wehling,
just weeks after the playoffs for the treatment of his left knee, and when that proved to be a success, he made a second trip this October for an innovative procedure on his troubled ankle.
This modern procedure, which is still in experimental phase, consists of taking a blood sample from the injured area and then injecting it back after contaminating it with platelets and growth cells in order to speed up the tissue
growth and healing.
Bryant, already feeling the difference, is pleased with the physical improvement and feels stronger than before.
"I feel a lot stronger and a lot quicker and able to get to the basket and free-throw line," he said
Watching him play in the practice sessions this season, his team mates and the coach also witnessed the improvement in his physical strength.
"He's done some things in practice that have kind of wowed you as far as taking the ball to the basket strong and finishing with dunks in traffic," new Lakers Coach Mike Brown said.
Bryant is easily the Lakers best player for years now and with him fitter than ever, the team’s chances of progressing in this season have also augmented. Lakers faced a major setback in the team’s preseason opener against the
Clippers, when Bryant tore his right wrist ligaments in an attempt to avoid a fall.
He missed the next game, however fortunately for the team; he was spotted in the team’s practice sessions in the next few days and played in the game against the Chicago Bulls on Christmas Day. He scored a game high 28 points along
with 6 assists and seven rebounds in the game, which the Lakers lost by 87-88.
