Technically, you are comparing two players that did different things on the court, but ill take a stab at it anyway.

For one, Pippen was the greatest all round player that the NBA has, or maybe will see.  I believe that I would take Scottie over Kobe any day.

Before i go on about Pippen, lemme give Kobe props. A great scorer, no doubt.  Pippen, on the other hand, has to be more coveted because of his skill set.

People equate the ability to score mountains of points as greatness; I call it the "Michael Jordan Syndrome". People just look at the numbers and dont look at the intangibles such as defense,ect.

Pippen was a good and very capable scorer,but not as good as Kobe or Michael.  He sure as **** was a better defender than Kobe. h**l, he was better than Michael, Magic, Drexler or any other player that you want to put up.

Really, Pippen made it possible for the likes of Grant Hill, Lamar Odom, Lebron James and other players like those guys to actually have a place in the NBA. Scottie's skill set was d**n near unheard of at that time of his play. No way would a 6'7-6'8 player be considered a point guard, let alone play up to four positions.

As a final note, and to emphasize Scottie's impact on the NBA, NBA draft night analysts ALWAYS mention a versatile, multi-faceted player as a "Scottie Pippen" type. Never have i once heard of a "Kobe Bryant " type  on draft night.. never..

to me this is an easy answer...they were both GREAT second bananas to the MAN on their respective teams...the only problem for the Lakers is that Kowannabe couldn't co-exist with the Diesel and the results are pretty obvious...(insert fan rhetoric supporting Ko here - say something about his REGULAR SEASON MVP or scoring titles, anything to distract from the REAL issue - Ko (and Scottie for that matter) is a COAT TAIL RIDER....that being said I'd rather have Scottie on my team, ALTHOUGH I've seen them both QUIT in the Finals...

Pippen is better.  Remember regular season doesn't count if you want to say who is best.  Post season.  Pippen is a better defender and better #2 than kobe was with Shaq as #1.    Pippen has 6 rings kobe 3 rings.  Neither of them have finals mvp's.  Pippen never lost in the finals. Kobe has lost twice.  The nod has to go to pippen at this time.

Kobe is a shooting guard, Pippen was a forward, I would say Jordan over Kobe both shooting guards. I Lebron over Pippen both Small forwards. I am sick of people comparing Lebron to Jordan when Jordan was a guard. Comparing Kobe to Pippen is just as bad. Compare Kobe to Jerry West, Reggie Miller or Jordan, Compare Lebron to Pippen, Bird, Dr. J. Small Forwards. Who is better David Robinson or John Stockton. You see it does not work. if it wasn't for MJ Pippen wouldn't even be a great player, if Pippen was such a great player the Blazers would not have gotten swept by Kobe's Lakers in the first round a couple of years ago

kobes a better scorer for sure, theres no comparison in that.

pippen was definitely a better defender than kobe.

they play different roles.  if i had a dominant player on my team, than i would rather have pippen in his prime than kobe, but if i didnt have a dominant player then i would have to go with kobe.

you can build around kobe easier than you could build around pippen.
