Kobe Bryant says Los Angeles Lakers is still his team – NBA News
As the Los Angeles Lakers embark on a historic season after amassing a league of talent in their roster during the summer, Kobe Bryant wants everyone to remember that this is still his team, and he made sure of that on Monday,
which was the media day for the Lakers.
Bryant has himself conceded that this is the best talent he has ever been around in one team, but still knows that being in the Lakers for more than a decade and having won five NBA championships with them, he has more ownership
of the team than anybody else does.
“I got a question earlier about whose team this is. I don't want to get into the, 'Well, we share ...' No, it's my team. But I want to make sure that Dwight, when I retire, this is going to be his,” said Bryant.
The Lakers added two time MVP Steve Nash and Three time defensive player of the year Dwight Howard to the line-up in the offseason, making them heavy favourites to win the NBA title this coming season. However, many speculated
that the Lakers might not be able to co-exist, with so much star power in one team. But the new members are in the right place to start off.
"I'm willing to go through that process, learn from one of the greatest to ever play the game and I think it will be great," Howard said. "I think learning from a guy like Kobe, I know he's going to be tough on me but I expect
that and I want him to do that,” said Howard.
Steve Nash has had his fair share of playing with All Star players Dirk Nowitzki with the Dallas Mavericks and Amar’e Stoudemire with the Phoenix Suns. However, he knows that this time around, the team belongs to someone else.
"I think this is Kobe's team. But anyone who's ever played on a basketball team, it's also our team. Kobe can't do everything. He's going to be great at what he's great at, and the rest of us got to pick up the pieces that get
to us,” said Nash on Monday.
The Lakers will embark upon the most interesting of seasons in recent times, with all the media attention on them and the pressure of performing to the expectations of the fans. However, it will take a lot more than just adding
quality players to the roster for the team to win the NBA title.
