Kobe Bryant says he hasn’t spoken to Besiktas in weeks: NBA Update
Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant was expected to have a meeting with the executives of the Turkish club Besiktas during the weekend and it was anticipated that Besiktas will discuss the options to have one of the world’s
greatest basketball player on board, until the NBA lockout ends.
However, the story took an interesting turn when the 32 years old veteran shooting guard denied the information of any such meeting.
While attending an exhibition game between Manchester United and F.C. Barcelona as an ambassador for the Turkish Airline during the weekend, the future hall of famer, stated in a press conference that he has not spoken to Besiktas
in quite a while.
“To be honest with you, that’s the first time I’m hearing those things. So, I’ll let you decipher what that means, but a lot of that stuff is news to me. I haven’t spoken to them in weeks.” Kobe said.
After signing the New Jersey Nets point guard Deron Williams, Besiktas were eyeing to acquire Bryant and made a couple of statements in this regards as well. Turkish club’s head of basketball operations Seref Yalcin even stated
that there are 50 percent chances of Bryant coming to Turkey to play for the team.
While everybody was waiting to hear the outcome of the meeting that was supposed to take place on the 30th of July, Bryant’s statement completely changed the outlook of the story. Five-time NBA Champion ruled out the
happening of the meeting and stated that it’s been quite some time now he talked to the franchise.
However the NBA All-Star Kobe Bryant is still waiting in the wings to grab the opportunity of playing overseas and waiting for someone to contact him.
“I’m just waiting on my phone to ring. Here it is. I’ll play anywhere. I grew up overseas, so I’m comfortable being overseas. So if [a team] wants to pick up the phone and give me a call and wants me to come and play, I’ll definitely
listen.” Bryant said.
Kobe is feeling pretty healthy after enduring platelet rich plasma therapy earlier this month to mend his right knee and only wants to play basketball wherever the opportunity arises.
“Right now, I feel like I have a lot more years left than I did last season — I feel as good as I felt in years. I feel really young. I feel springy. I feel light.” Bryant said.
The NBA Lockout has completed its first month and there is certain answer of when the league will get back to business. Considering this uncertain situation, Bryant can only aim and is aiming to play overseas until the NBA lockout
is ended.
