Future Hall of Famer says you don't win 5 NBA championships without learning to trust your teammates and relying on them...
Ever since the Los Angeles Lakers added Steve Nash and Dwight Howard to the roster in the summer, they have become one of the favourites to win the NBA title next season, and also one of the most hated teams in the NBA at the moment.
The response is natural, as fans of small market teams will feel that the Lakers are able to use the huge revenue they generate from being a big market team to attract the best players and hence, win consistently without giving
other teams the opportunity to have their share of glory.
The hatred of NBA fans all over the world has taken many different shapes and forms, with many saying that the Lakers will not be able to develop any significant team chemistry and their inability to co-exist and work as a team
will lead to their demise. Although this may be coming from disappointed fans, there is some logic in their reasoning.
However, Kobe Bryant thinks otherwise. The five time NBA champion says that he will not have any issue playing with Steve Nash and the two will play together very well.
“Here’s the thing: Some people are just very, very dumb. I keep hearing it from some people that I just want to score and that other stuff. Nobody has won more championships than me in my entire generation. I’ve got five of them.
You can’t be selfish and win one championship, let alone five. That argument should be in the coffin by now. I don’t like having the ball,” said Bryant while talking on the Mason and Ireland show on ESPN 710 radio in Los Angeles.
Many people say that Bryant and Nash will not be able to play well together, since both are used to being the leaders of their respective teams and having the offence run through them. They control the ball and the pace and style
of the game. In this scenario, Kobe will have to give up that control to Nash and let him be the playmaker, while he focuses on scoring.
However, Bryant talked to Nash before he was recruited by the Lakers and one of the reasons for bringing Nash to Los Angeles was so that Bryant did not have to work too hard on finding an open shot, and the pressure for him to
do all the work was shared. Although it will take some time for the Lakers core to develop chemistry and start playing as a team, they will be able to quickly respond and adjust according to the requirements and will be a far better team in March than they
are now.
