Kobe Bryant turns to Facebook to sympathize with Mike Brown; Vows to move on – NBA Update
After a week of speculation, the Los Angeles Lakers have finally sacked their head coach Mike Brown.
The former Cleveland Cavaliers coach took over the reins of NBA’s most popular franchise last pre-season and had taken them to the Western Conference Semifinals last season. This summer, the Lakers made some huge moves to sign Steve Nash and Dwight Howard, and on paper it seemed that the Hollywood franchise will be literally unbeatable.
The reality however turned out to be the exact opposite.
Lakers lost all of their pre-season games and before tonight’s win against a short-handed Golden State Warriors team, there were 1-4 in the season, the lone success coming against the Detroit Pistons.
The results were poor, no doubt, but Brown was not entirely responsible. The Lakers were in the process of coming to terms to a new offensive system, there were major chemistry issues, the bench was week, Nash was out injured, and Howard was not 100 percent as well.
Yes, there was some curious coaching from Brown at times, but as with all superstar laden teams the coaches need time, and Brown needed that as well.
Kobe Bryant, the franchise talisman always knew that, and had been quite vocal in supporting his embattled coach in the last few weeks. That was not enough apparently, and after the firing decision became public, Bryant took to Facebook to express his sympathy with Brown;
“Tough day. I’ve seen coaches as well as friends come and go. No matter how many years I’ve been playing, it’s still hard to deal with. I had a good relationship with Mike and I will continue to have one. I wish him and his family nothing but the best. I spoke with him today and thanked him for all of his hard work and sacrifice.”
Kobe however vowed to move on and put the Lakers on the right path – the winning path;
“As a team, we must focus our energy on tonight’s game. We must block out the weight of today’s news and simply do our jobs to the best of our ability.
I’m not sure what direction we are heading in next. All I can do is focus on the here and now.
Mamba out”.
