Kobe better than Mike?

Whoever thinks thats true go ahead and answer, and please list your reason why...personally, and just about everyone in the world agrees with it, that MJ is better than Kobe, but hey, I wanna hear your opinions and the reasoning behind it

No, not quite. Jordans stats and awards shadows kobe's by far (jordan also won without a dominant center, kobe had shaq. jordan has 10 scoring titles and kobe just got his 2nd. jordan was named 1st team all defense 9 times, kobe has only been named to it 6 times. jordan has 6 titles and kobe has 3. jordan=10 time all-nba 1st team, kobe=only 6. etc) he has a long way to go. but i will agree that kobe was a better 3 point shooter than jordan.

I wasn't going to respond since I am not qualified to answer this question (ie I am NOT dumb enough to think Kobe could hold Mike's jock in a briefcase.). But I HAVE to respond to this tomfoolery........

Kobe knws this and will say it himself. Patterned his whole game after  the man.

This suggests that if hand checking had not been allowed suddenly the greatest athlete of our time would have been at some type of loss. You cannot penalize a player for what the rules were at his prime. If Kobe could hand check he would too.

Did you ever actually see the Bulls then!?!?!? Scottie developed into a great perimeter defender. Mike was actually Defensive Player of the Year. Think about that. The leading scorer in the league was agreed upon as also the best defensive player in the league. This is while Olajuwan, Rodman, Ewing, Jabbar, Roberston, all of these great defenders are in the league. stop playing.

Kobe - 1086- 3192.. 34.1 % from 3 in 866 games

As you can see Kobe took 1414 more 3's in 206 less games ... so that alone should sum up what kind style they played"

So you used all those words to say Kobe took a lot more three's (there goes that shot selection again.) and shot less than 2 percentage points better than Mike. oh okay.

Mike did get a lot of calls but all he got he earned the league wasn't handed to him on a silver platter as rookie. He had to succeed despite hate from his own team, hate from the all stars of the league, Boston and Detroit beating his butt in the playoffs, teammates being soft in the clutch (scottie). thats what you call earning what you get. He was the man and the whole thing rested on his shoulders win or lose. You know who Kobe had fight. Shaq. Maybe you heard of him, the guy who commanded triple teams while Kobe shot that higher 3pt percentage.

How can Kobe be better than Jordan, I don't even consider Kobe better than Magic Johnson, or Larry Bird, or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, or Elgin Baylor, or Oscar Robertson, or Bill Russel, or Wilt Chamberlain, and the list goes on. The only people perpetrating this stupidity are kids not old enough to know their basketball history, and they should be burned on crosses for their blasphemy.

Kobe has surpassed Michael Jordan skill and ability wise in this tougher basketball era. MJ will always have Kobe in statistics. But Kobe is better skill-wise.

@D-rock "I think Wade is closer skill-wise to Jordan, they both play a mid-range game and are great finishers" Are you on crack? D-wade doesn't have a mid range game, not like Kobe not even close. Have you been watching Road to Redemption? In it Lebron was talking about how Kobe perfected his mid range game to perfection, do you even know basketball? Kobe has the deadliest mid range game in the league. Why do you think people keep comparing Kobe to Jordan saying Kobe imitates Jordan it's because they have the same game. I love Wade and his game is close to Jordan but Kobe's is carbon copy.

This proves my point that MJ played in watered down era. Putting Jabbar on this list is an insult! during the Jabbar era he didn't do jack!

Michael Jordan is very much better than Kobe. Think about the competition between the different eras. When MJ played, the other teams and the whole leauge, you know... actually played defense. Which made it much harder for MJ to score.

Now the whole NBA is based off of dunks and offense and fancy moves. When Kobe scored 81 points, that was because the other team barely played, at all. He just walked the ball in every time down. Which is selfish because he is a ball-hog and a showoff. I mean MJ was a ball-hog but in a good way. He moved the ball till he found opportunities to score. Now Kobe on the other hand will just drive the ball up the middle swinging his shoulder's and go 10/30 from the field.

And I was reading your additional info too. I agree that Kobe is a better long range shooter like at the 3 point and a couple steps in, but no one had a better shot, form, or jump shot like MJ had at the foul line. He developed such a dominate driving game that he really didn't need to shoot as much as Kobe does. He even says in a teaching video that the only reason he was such a good shooter was because of his amazing driving game. Which is a good reason as any.

I do not think taking 3's is bad shot selections ... Do i think Kobe takes bad shots sometimes ? yes sure but 3's isn't bad shots

For example .. making 2 out of 6 -3 pters .. sure it's 33.3% but it's 6 points .. as same as making 3 out of 6 - 2pointers .. which is 6 points but only looks better in FG % .. still the same thing ..

Plus Kobe just turned 30 and has still 5 good years in him .. and has chance to win few Championships

Of course Kobe doesn't average what MJ did .. because .. he don't take over 23 per game like MJ did for his whole career ..

Well,  Kobe has done something impressive, which is won 3 rings with his team consecutively. Downplaying that fact means you are a Kobe hating hypocrite. They even stopped the Spurs while they were at it, but still winning 3 rings at a really young age is no where as impressive as winning 6 rings and having such a high win percentage.

Kobe was better at being a SG, but he wasn't the better player. The best player that follows the SG description is Rip Hamilton, but he isn't better than MJ or Kobe.

Kobe plays similar to Jordan and is a winner like him. Kobe seems like the better teammate, but hey, if a teammate of mine wins me 6 rings, I consider that teammate to be the best.

The only time I will believe Kobe is better than or as good as Jordan is when he

1. Wins 3 rings with Pau Gasol. [Main accomplishment.]

2. Uses his ability to jump better. [People sometimes overrate dunkers]

3. Attacks the rim slightly better.

It wouldn't hurt if Kobe's Lakers had a high winning percentage. I don't care if Kobe averages 50 PPG, stats don't lie, but people get the wrong ideas from them.
