The Indian Premier League outfit, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, have requested the Indian Cricket Board to allow them to play their home matches at Ahmedabad.
Kochi along with Sahara Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 was a new franchise in the fourth edition of the lucrative tournament.
The team represented the city Kochi, Kerala, where they host their home ties. However, the main concern for the owners has been the viewership rights, which are close to none in the city of Kerala. This has prompted the owners to reevaluate their stance
and move to Ahmeadabad.
“We have suffered huge losses in our inaugural season this year. And there is no viewership for cricket in Kerala. We have asked the Board to shift the team's base to Ahmedabad," said Sanchit Aggarwal, a Kochi Tuskers official.
The statement however, did not match with IPL vice-chairman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Niranjan-Rasiklal-Shah-c79664, who said the main reason for the team to relocate their headquarters is due to a conflict which has risen between the owners and Kerela Cricket association. He though admitted it
won’t be a big problem to allow Kochi, to play their home matches somewhere else.
Since its inauguration, the franchise has faced difficulties due to its complications over management. The outfit is currently owned by multiple companies, which led to well-publicized disputed, which compelled the BCCI to terminate the team for the 2011
IPL season.
However after many discussions, the BCCI finally decided to allow the unit to participate in the tournament. Moreover, another issue regarding the name and logo was initiated where the team was to be called “Indi Commandos Kerala.”
After a breakout from the fans, a poll was carried out to finally settle on Kochi Tuskers Kerela as their official name.
The first outing for the franchise ended in a disappointment as the team, under the captaincy of Sri-Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils.
The owners have suffered substantial loses, reported to be in the region of 333 million dollars. They were in arguments with the BCCI and the IPL, after they reduced the no of live matches from 94 to 74.
