Kochi Tuskers Kerala vs. Deccan Chargers - Indian Premier League match recap
If anyone thought they had seen the best matches of the IPL (Indian Premier League) so far, they were in for a treat as the 32nd match of the ongoing fourth season of the lucrative league had more to offer than any of the previously played games.
The latest match was between the Kochi Tuskers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerala-c803 and Deccan Chargers, played at the Nehru Stadium, Kochi on April 27.
After restricting DC to a meagre total of 129 runs on a seaming wicket, the home side were eyeing another epic win against the pros. However, they had no idea that today http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ishant-Sharma-c64566 was about to bowl some magical spells to disgrace Kochi right in front
of their fans.
With victory almost within reach, Kochi openers Brendon McCullum and skipper Mahela Jayawardene opened the innings, thinking of wrapping up the game early. However, they were rattled by the seaming deliveries that were bolted right at them by the Deccan
Chargers from the first over. The DC skipper, Kumar Sangakkara, knew that the only way his side was going to win the game was by taking wickets and that’s exactly what his bowlers had in mind as they bolstered unplayable deliveries at the Kochi openers.
Things got too hot to handle for the flamboyant McCullum as he edged http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Dale-c41085 Steyn’s delivery straight into the hands of wicketkeeper Sangakkara. McCullum failed to score a run during his spell at bat.
If anyone thought this was bad, they certainly had no idea what was about to come in the next over as Ishant Sharam removed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Parthiv-Patel-c2159 on the second delivery of his over. Patel also perished by edging the ball to Sangakkara. On the very next delivery
the belligerent Sharma clean bowled middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brad-Hodge-c1184. Hodge also failed to score a run. Kochi’s ship was now sinking after being hit by an iceberg named Ishant
Sharma.
In his next over, the lanky Sharma struck again on the first delivery by trapping http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kedar-Jadhav-c1782 in front of the stumps causing the umpire to adjudge him leg before wicket (lbw) and on the last delivery of the same over he hit the jackpot by grabbing Jayawardene’s
wicket as the batsman gave an edge to Sangakkara after scoring four runs. A target that seemed so little now was appearing to be a mountain for the Tuskers.
With the top five batsmen back in the pavilion without scoring it was now almost curtains for Jayawardene’s team. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ravindra-c84236 Jadeja and Thisara Perera tried to save their team by scoring 23 and 22 runs. Nonetheless, the target was too much for the
late order to chase and the Tuskers fell 55 runs short from the required target.
Sharma was named the Man of the Match for grabbing five wickets and literally destroying the Kochi XI.
Earlier in the day Kochi won the toss and opted to field first on a seaming wicket. The Kochi bowlers did considerably well as they removed the DC openers early in the innings. Both openers Sunny Sohal and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shikhar-Dhawan-c90019 went back after scoring one and four
runs.
After scoring 65 runs off 47 deliveries, Sangakkara became the highest scorer in the game. Cameron White was the next highest run getter from the Deccan Chargers as he played an innings of 31 runs off 34 deliveries.
In the end, atotal that seemed miniscule was more than enough for Sangakkara’s men to grab a win right from the jaws of defeat.
