Kochi hasn't breached any agreement: BCCI chief
The Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shashank-Manohar-c89791 believes that the Indian Premier League franchise of Kochi has not breached any contractual obligations. Manohar was speaking
after having received a request from the franchise to allow them an extension of 10 days to end their disputes.
The BCCI had allowed Kochi a period of 10 days to register themselves as a joint venture or face expulsion from the IPL. However, the deadline passed this week and the resolution between the warring factions
within the franchise had not happened. Instead, the legal counsel of both the sides sent a request to the BCCI to give them an extension of another 10 days.
Manohar confirmed that the BCCI had received the request. He said: "Kochi's reply was received by our lawyers yesterday and will advise us accordingly.”
He also added that the franchise’s problems were different from those that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 have.
He said, “Kochi have not breached any agreement, our issues with them are different. They have huge differences between two groups of people in the franchise. They can't seem to agree on a central head
and when the season begins, when we go into auctions and player agreements, we can't have two voices coming from one team, which is why they have been asked to sort out their issues."
The issue that faces the IPL franchises is that the BCCI has yet to resolve the Kochi issue and with two of the 10 teams already barred from playing in the tournament, it could leave the league with only
seven teams this year.
However, Manohar was non-committal about the number of teams and said, "You can speculate on anything, seven teams, eight teams, we will take the decision when the matter regarding Kochi has been settled,"
Manohar also said that there was no need to rush with the player auctions, which can happen any time before the tournament starts. He said, "An auction can take place at any time - all that has to be ensured
is that players are available and signed on seven days before the first game."
