Question:

Kodak Easyshare Z740 Camera LCD display: rainbow of death!?

I have had the above camera for a few years now and LOVE it. I found it today not where I left it, but fallen to the floor or chair, I am not sure. I've never, ever let anything happen to it before. My problem is the LCD display on back seems busted. There is a TINY nick to the left of the screen and a slight tiny scratch on the plastic covering of the screen above the nick. The "rainbow of death" for LCD appears in the corner by the nick, even when the camera is OFF. I know, that's pretty bad!

The picture is completely distorted, but I can take pictures fine through the EVF, which I hate using. I took a test pic, sent it to my Mac, it works fine. Just can't use the LCD. :(

Has this happened to anyone before w/an LCD screen? Did/can you get it fixed? Is it costly? Who is good to go to? What do you suggest? I am hoping to especially hear similar stories with bad or happy endings and suggestions I can do now to fix the camera, if possible. Thank you!

  1. It can be repaired, but it may cost more than buying a  new camera.

If you can still compose your images using the dying LCD, use the camera until it dies completely ... in the mean time, start saving and looking for your next camera ... remember to look for a camera that uses the same memory card as your old one ... SD or SDHC cards
