Kohlmann/Waske outplay Fisher/Moser in opening round – PTT Thailand Open 2011
In the opening round of the doubles category of the PTT Thailand Open, the unseeded German duo of Michael Kohlmann and Alexander Waske stood victorious against the combination of Ashley Fisher from Australia and Frank Moser of
Germany, on Tuesday afternoon.
The German duo took one hour and seventeen minutes to wrap up victory in straight sets 6-1, 7-6(6), to make it to the quarter-final rounds of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 tournament.
The contest was staged on the indoor hard courts of the Impact Arena, in Bangkok, Thailand, with the German pair displaying its magnificent form and skills to come out as the winner. Kohlmann and Waske delivered 78 per cent of
their serve on target and clinched 33 out of 46 first serve points in the game to stand victorious.
Both duos crafted 10 break opportunities apiece in the matchup but Kohlmann and Waske converted five of their chances to win the contest, with Fisher and Moser lagging behind with two break point conversions.
Fisher and Moser lacked the coordination in the matchup, something very evidently exhibited by the German duo in the competition. Kohlmann and Waske kept the games short and professional, absolutely blowing away their opponent
in the opening set. They broke in the very first game of the match to lead 2-0 and then another break through took them to a substantial lead of 4-0 in the first set. With Fisher and Moser failing to register a serve break, Kohlmann and Waske closed out the
first set with their third break point conversion at 6-1.
The competition got even intense in the following set, with Fisher and Moser registering two serve breaks. Kohlmann and Waske replied with the same to take the set into a tie breaker round. The German duo carried on their impetus
in the decider and eventually concluded victory at 7-6(6), to move into the quarter-final draw of the PTT Thailand Open.
Kohlmann and Waske will take the winner of the match between the second seeded Israeli duo of Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram, and the unseeded combination of Johan Brunstrom and Jarkko Nieminen, in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
