If I have a heater, can my Koi and Oscar live together?

I heard it can be done, but I'm just checking to make sure.

  1. yes, becuase i have a tank with a koi and a oscar in it. they both are alive and HUGE . it really matters how good you maintain your tank and what you feed your fish.

  2. It can be done, but will both fish thrive?  Not likely.  Oscars are tropical, and need water temp of 75-80 degrees F.  Koi are coldwater fish, so prefer below 65 F.  Keep in mind that one oscar should have at least a 30 gallon tank.  One full grown koi that can reach over 3 feet in length needs even more than that.

  3. A koi should be in a pond as they require around a 1000 gallons of water.  I would not keep them together.

  4. Koi and Oscar cannot be kept together.  Here's why.

    1.  Koi need colder water.  Oscars need warmer water.  Their comfortable temperature ranges do not overlap.  They cannot be kept in the same water.

    2.  Koi are peaceful and oscars aggressive.  It is recommended that you keep fish of the same aggression level together; mixing koi and oscar results in a badly bruised koi.  The Oscar would pick on the Koi and hurt it.

So please don't try to put your koi and oscar together.  The koi won't like your heater.

  5. nope will not since oscars aggressive will tear your koi out.   Why bother mixed them up?  Koi grows big so does oscar. not advisable.
