Koji Murofushi dominates Men’s Hammer Throw to sustain his winning streak – Athletics news
It usually happens that success in a smaller level event for an athlete leads him or her to have a place in a bigger and more renowned event. These kinds of rules usually help local spectators in observing emphatic performances of athletes, which are usually
only attributed to international level games. Moreover, they also provide a chance to athletes to not only give out their best, but to also identify and overcome the areas which are still needed to be worked upon in their performances.
One such event which led performers to give out their best and ensure their participation at the World championships in Daegu was the 95th Japanese National Championships. The event commenced on June 10 and lasted for two days in the city of Kumagaya,
which is known to be the hottest city in Japan.
The championships were of double importance not only for athletes, but also for the spectators as according to the rules, only the athlete who emerged in their respective disciplines were allowed to participate at the World Championships in Daegu. This forced
each performer to stretch himself to his limits and give out his best.
The particular athlete who left his fans and spectators stunned was Koji Murofushi, the 36-year-old Japanese Hammer Thrower, who secured a gold medal at the Athens Olympics and who has also been among the world elite since the 2001 World Championships. Amid
the emphatic performance he displayed during the National Championships, he successfully sustained his winning streak and bagged his 17th continuous title in the event.
During the competition, Murofushi opened his account by throwing 75.94m in the first round, which was later on extended to 76.62m in the next round. After hitting the 75m mark on three occasions, the veteran athlete finished the contest for throwing 77.01m.
The results culminated in extending his dominance over the discipline for one more year.
Commenting upon his unprecedented success, Murofushi, who is trying to hit the 80m mark, said, “I am happy to be competing for so long, I am trying to peak in the summer.”
Interestingly, Yuka Murofushi, the 34-year-old athlete who happens to be the sister of the formidable Hammer Thrower, also appeared in the Hammer and Discus Throws. The winner of 2010 Japanese title finished second in the former meet, but bagged her tenth
straight win in the Discus Throws event. Though the performance displayed by both athletes was matchless in their own right, the focus of spectators deservingly will remain on Koji Murofushi.
