Kolbeinn Sigthorsson: http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AFC-Ajax-c38228 was logical choice for me – Dutch Eredivisie news
Reports from Amsterdam confirm that Kolbeinn Sigthorsson has signed a contract with Ajax Amsterdam that will keep him at Amsterdam Arena until the summer of 2015. The Amsterdammers have reportedly acquired the services of the 21-year-old from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar
after both sides earlier agreeing upon a transfer fee of 4 million Euros.
The Icelandic International started his professional career only at the start of 2010/11 campaign, but the impressive performances in his debut season at AZ Stadion were enough for the Amsterdammers to add him to their ranks. The striker scored 15 goals
in 32 appearances in the recently concluded season.
The newly crowned Dutch champions were in the market for a striker to replace http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mounir-El-Hamdaoui-c26905, who has set his sights on a move away from Amsterdam in the ongoing summer transfer market. The Amsterdammers see the Icelandic International as an ideal replacement
for their outgoing Hamdaoui, and would be relieved after successfully taking his signature.
The 21-year-old was also heavily linked with Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, but preferred to play with Ajax in the upcoming season. The young striker revealed that he chose Ajax as they play attacking football and with many good players around, he
could develop rapidly into a more mature player.
“Ajax is renowned for it’s attacking and attractive football. With such good players around me playing attacking football, I will certainly have many opportunities. The advantage of playing with Ajax is that the chance of playing is more than Dortmund”,
Sigthorsson said while talking to the media.
The Icelandic ace then went on to reveal that to train under Dennis Bergkamp and Frank de Boer is certainly something more than special.
“Ajax was a logical choice for me in many ways. From the first moment, it felt like Frank de Boer and Danny Blind really wanted me and they said it too. In addition, to train under the former stars like De Boer and Mr. Dennis Bergkamp, I cannot wish a better
coach”, the Icelandic International concluded.
The future seems to be brighter for the Amsterdammers following the acquisition of Sigthorsson with all signs indicating that they will emerge as an even stronger outfit in the upcoming season.
