Kolkata http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gautam-Gambhir-c58623: Long journey ahead in the competition – IPL News
Enormously delighted over the victory against Deccan Chargers, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ skipper Gautam Gambhir refused to get carried away with the triumph, stating, it is a long way to go in the tournament and the team has to get going with the same tempo
in the remaining Indian Premier League.
After an unfortunate two-run defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings in the IPL starter, all eyes were glued on KKR team, as they were playing their first home game of the season without their former captain Sourav Ganguly. The Shahrukh Khan-owned franchise
did not disappoint their home crowd and thrashed Deccan Chargers convincingly by 9 runs.
"It was a great feeling. We want to play some good cricket and bring some joy to the people of this city. The venue is fantastic. We hope to win a lot more games. We are hungry and we want to do well," Gambhir said.
Though, Gambhir looked quite glad for registering their first two points in the league, the captain described that the win is not enough for the side, as the players have to work even harder to pass through further turbulent waters in the competition.
"We are just happy, not relieved. It`s just the start of the tournament. We got a long way to go. I don`t believe in a word called relief. I want to take every game seriously. It`s a good feeling to get points on the board and we hope to continue with the
momentum," the KKR skipper added.
Describing the team effort in Monday’s game, Gambhir gave full credit to their bowlers who maintained and impeccable line and length throughout the game, not letting Chargers’ batters to play fluently. The classy left-hander heaped his praise to young seamer
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iqbal-Abdulla-c1596, who emerged as KKR’ hero against Deccan Chargers, returning with excellent bowling figures of three for 24.
Gambhir also showed his regrets for not winning the previous game against Chennai Super Kings, as the captain insisted that his team was the better side on the day, and should have won the opening game.
Commenting on the IPL fever among Indians, the left-hander has already showed his belief that the league was a huge hit. However, India’s stunning performance in the just-concluded mega event has added additional fascination in the T20 competition.
Gambhir, who was earlier bought by the KKR for US $2.4 million, showed his concern over a tight schedule for international players, as they barely got a five-day break to adjust themselves in the T20 format after a gruelling 43-day of highly-competitive
one-day cricket. However, the KKR Captain made it clear that a specialised cricketer has no excuse because being a professional one needs to lift himself for the challenges.
