Gautam Gambhir, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has once again emphasised that he believes in contributions from the whole playing-eleven instead of individual brilliances and claimed that this philosophy has been the secret behind the franchise’s
success in the fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
KKR had four ordinary seasons of the tournament before finally getting their act together this year and clinching the title under the inspirational leadership of Gambhir.
The franchise finished at number two in the league stage with 21 points after 16 matches and then went on to beat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils and Chennai Super Kings in the play-offs to lift the trophy.
Gambhir and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869 were prolific performers for KKR in the fifth season but there were no major performances from the other players. However, all the guys chipped in with crucial contributions whenever their team needed them the most.
The left-handed opening batsman took over Kolkata's captaincy last year and since then he has made sure that the players play for the team instead of preferring their individual performances.
The Test cricketer led his team from the front but refused to take all the credit by himself and feels that every single player has played a role in Kolkata’s triumph.
“I have always said in all my interviews that KKR is not about individuals. Since the time I have taken over my only job was to tell people that let’s not talk about KKR as a team which is very popular off the cricket field. It has to be a team which people
talk about what they do on the cricket field. KKR should not be about individuals,” Gambhir said.
Like every great captain, Gautam values those small showings which help the team win, rather than centuries or five-wicket hauls, which do not contribute to a team’s success.
“For me it’s all about honouring or giving credit to the small contribution. I am a very strong believer that it’s those small contributions which will win you games,” he added.
Gambhir looks to do well in the Champions League T20 as well, which will take place in either http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 later this year.
