Kolkata Knight Riders receive warm welcome from Mamata Banerjee – Cricket News Update
Kolkata Knight Riders’ players and co-owner Shahrukh http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319, on Tuesday, received a warm welcome from West Bengal’s chief minister, Mamata Banerjee.
The felicitation was held for KKR players in front of the Writers' Buildings, after they romped over Chennai Super Kings in the final of the Indian Premier League's 5th season, played on Sunday, May 27, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Speaking at the reception of his team, the Bollywood heart-throb said, “We have been waiting for this day so long. Thank you Didi. Thank You Kolkata. Thank you West Bengal on behalf of every member of the team. Only Kolkata will rule.”
Thousands of KKR fans had gathered on the streets to witness their heroes with the coveted trophy. SRK received a deafening cheer from the crowd when he made his way out of his car and joined the rest of his players.
The Bollywood King held that the trophy is a result of the hard-work Kolkata’s players had put in their game. Shahrukh urged the crowd to cheer more for the players as they were the ones who had brought the title to Kolkata.
“I am actually more concerned about how Gautam and all the other boys are feeling. People do also clap the loudest for me without realising the actual work that goes into all of this. I had never really done anything in this,” SRK replied when asked how he felt about the crowd chanting his name.
Shahrukh also hoped that Knight Riders will repeat the same performance in the next season. The Bollywood star termed KKR’s victory as one of his biggest hit.
As a sign of their appreciation, Shahrukh, along with the members of KKR roster were handed bouquets from Banerjee.
The chief minister lavished praise on KKR for bringing the trophy to Bengal. She said, “Bengal is proud. The victory of the Knight Riders is like a victory of the world.”
