Kolkata Knight Riders v Kochi Tuskers Kerala – 2nd Innings Report – Part 1
The 45th match of the Indian Premier League, between the Kochi Tuskers Kerala and the Kolkata Knight Riders was played at Nehru Stadium, Kochi on May 5, 2011.
Batting first, the Kochi Tuskers Kerala managed to post a fairly reasonable target of 157 for the Knight Riders. Kochi skipper, Mahela Jayawardene’s superb 55 run knock aided the crumbling Tuskers.
Jacques Kallis and Eoin Morgan made their way on to the pitch at the Nehru Stadium as RP Singh ran in to bowl his side’s first over. The openers took off to a good start with 9 runs in the first over.
The flamboyant Sreesanth bowled the next over and had an appeal for leg before wicket turned down on the penultimate delivery. Replays later showed that the ball hit the pads after a thin edge off the bat.
Kallis and Morgan gave Singh a tough time as the duo smashed him for three boundaries before Sreesanth slowed them down in the over to follow.
Vinay Kumar kept the batsmen from playing the big shots but some shrewd running between the wickets kept the scoreboard ticking.
Another bowling change saw Prasanth Parameswaran with the ball and he put it to good use, bowling his side’s best over in the match, giving away only 3 runs.
While keeping the run rate low seemed to be Kochi’s game plan, the batsmen had settled in which was proving to be a growing concern as the need for a wicket became more pressing.
There was a scare for Kallis in the 8th over when Parameswaran went up to appeal a caught behind. However, fortunately for Kallis, the appeal was turned down.
By the end of the 10th over, Jacques Kallis was looking comfortable at 45 with fellow opener, Eoin Morgan cruising at 22.

The match was poised for a tense finish as both teams made their way into the final 10 overs of the match.
