Kolkata Knight Riders v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals – Indian Premier League 5 – Match recap – KKR seal 5-wicket win
After an indifferent start to the season, which saw them losing the first two matches they played, the Kolkata Knight Riders appeared to be getting into their stride as they followed up their 42-run win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore with a 5-wicket
victory over the Rajasthan Royals on April 13 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The Royals won the toss and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajinkya-Rahane-c970 (19) yielded 45 runs, but the visiting batsmen did not count on the new addition to the
Knight Riders’ bowling attack – Bangladesh’s Shakib Al http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990, who made up for his absence in the first two matches with a devastating 3 for 17.
Rahane was dismissed by the 25-year-old before he had the chance to make any sizeable contribution to his team’s total, and after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashok-c46345 Menaria’s (1) run out at the hands of Yusuf Pathan, Shakib sent the skipper back to the pavilion in the 9th over,
leaving the Royals at a precarious 49 for 3.
The visitors’ innings gained some momentum with the budding partnership of wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shreevats-Goswami-c2518 (24) and Owais Shah (31). The two batsmen appeared to be going strong, and had set up a 59-run stand, but Shakib was again on hand to break
it up, dismissing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mayank-Goswami-c75433 in the 17th over, with the Royals at 108 for 4.
In addition to taking wickets, Shakib was also effective at restricting the run flow, and despite the fact that the Royals played all the way through to the end of their 20 overs, they were not able to rack up a particularly daunting total, and finished
at 131 courtesy an 18-run partnership between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/J-Botha-c1610 (6) in the death overs.
Shakib was aided in his attack by Windies spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/OA-Shah-c2134), registering figures of 4-0-22-1.
Chasing a target of 132, the home team got there without much difficulty, at the expense of 5 wickets, with 4 balls to spare.
Veteran South African batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 (11) opened the innings, and put 22 on the board before some confusion in running led to the abrupt dismissal of the captain.
Wicketkeeper batsman Manvinder Bisla (29) and Kallis then teamed up for a 48-run partnership, which ended with the latter’s dismissal, lbw, by Botha, who claimed his second scalp of the current season. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manoj-Tiwary-c1890 (24) joined Bisla at the crease, and the
two contributed a combined 24 runs to the total, but Bisla was caught at extra cover by Rahane off Menaria in the 15th over.
After Tiwary’s departure in the 17th over, courtesy http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bradley-Hogg-c59047, the Knight Riders found themselves facing the challenge of an asking rate of 8 an over. However, all-rounder Shakib came through for his team, scoring 16 off 10 deliveries, and getting
his team up to 126 by the 19th over, after which he was dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Amit-Singh-c44048.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RN-ten-Doeschate-c2338 (7) provided the extra few runs required at the end to enable the KKR to claim a 5-wicket victory – their second consecutive win in the tournament, which saw them moving up to number 4 on the points table, edging the
Royals (who had begun the season at the top) down to number 5.
