Kolkata Knight Riders v Royal Challengers Bangalore - KKR grab a massive win by 47 runs - Live Score and Update
Kolkata Knight Riders 190/4 (20/20 ov) v RCB 143/6 (20.0/20 ov) - Kolkata Knight Riders won by 47 runs
On Saturday, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper, Gautam Gambhir, clobbered his side to victory as the 30-year-old blasted a knock of 93 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore in a match that was played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
It was Gambhir’s day as he was dropped thrice in the game which cost RCB heavily as the batsman ended up not only being named the Player of the Match, but also the highest scorer in the game.
After the win, Gambhir in his post-match ceremony said, “Look, it was just one of the days when things go right, the way the pair of Kallis and McCullum batted was simply superb. And then we bowled well as well. If the team batting first can get to 190, it just shows that the wicket was really good.”
Meanwhile battered RCB skipper, Daniel Vettori giving full marks to Gambhir admitted that the KKR skipper was just too good.
“We can always look back at the dropped catches but you also look back at the innings Gambhir played and doff your hats off,” he said.
Meanwhile, after getting smashed for a mammoth tally of 190 runs due to the staggering batting performances from Brendon McCullum (43), Gambhir and Jacques Kallis (41), RCB needed a similar batting performance from their batting brigade in order to pull off a miraculous win from a tough position they were in.
However, they couldn’t have started their innings in a worse way than they did by losing their first wicket with only two runs on the board as hard-hitting opener Tillakaratne Dilshan failed to rise to the occasion.
Perhaps with too many hopes pined on him, the batsman was under immense pressure which resulted in his demise.
Nonetheless, with Chris Gayle on the crease, RCB still had a favourable chance of bagging a win.
Before Gayle could serious launch a daunting batting attack, the side suffered the loss of their second wicket with Virat Kohli departing after scoring 18 runs.
On the next delivery RCB hit rock bottom on losing the wicket of dependable batsman, AB de Villiers, who departed without troubling the scorers.
Then throughout the innings, Kolkata bowlers kept the run rate under check, which added more pressure on the batting side.
While Gayle held his side of the wicket, batsmen kept falling from the other end, which restricting Gayle from going all ballistic on the bowlers as he needed some support from the other end to launch a potent batting onslaught.
Nonetheless, he was the last man to fall after scoring 86 runs, as the side managed to post only 143 runs in 20 overs for the loss of six wickets.
